Similarities Mercury and Yamaha starters

Be careful, some Yamaha and Mercury outboard starter references are very similar and can be confusing !

Many years of experience have taught us that errors have been made on certain manufacturer references, and therefore the same manufacturer reference can apply to 2 very different starters. It's quite rare, but unfortunately it does exist.

In order to avoid order error problems, we invite you to carefully check the following points BEFORE ordering your starter:

  1. The photos on our site must match EXACTLY the starter you want to replace. They are the ones who make time.
  2. The center distances of the fixing holes on the pinion side must be checked with a caliper. Dimension tolerance: +/- 1mm.
  3. The bottom attachment can be centered and off-centered (see photo below): No tolerance possible.
  4. The number of teeth of the starter pinion: no tolerance possible.
  5. The length of the cylindrical part must match (uniformly cylindrical part excluding the top and bottom of the starter). Dimension tolerance: +/- 2mm.

Examples of differences on similar references, which make fitting the starter impossible even if all the other visual aspects correspond:
